Melbourne Zoo
A world of wildlife is waiting for you at Melbourne Zoo, located in Melbourne Victoria just 4km from the CBD.
Set in a lush botanical setting Melbourne Zoo features over 300 species of animals from around the world. You will find everything there, from insects and butterflies to pygmy hippopotamus and elephants to tigers and koalas.
Amongst the displays at Melbourne Zoo in Australia you will find a diverse collection of Australian animals such as kangaroos, wombats and platypus.
There's also an African and Asian rainforest to wander through where you may meet a tiger or a gorilla, or make your way to the Elephant Trail where you will learn more about these magnificent animals.
Must-sees include the Orang-utan Sanctuary, which has been designed to replicate the tree-top living Orang-utan's enjoy in the wild. The sanctuary is actually an elevated treetop boardwalk which gives visitors the opportunity to get as close as possible to these amazing animals and watch them play, climb and eat the day away.
During summer take advantage of the warm Melbourne weather and visit the zoo at night for 'Zoo Twilights'. These occur on selected nights at Melbourne Zoo and include live music, animal displays and keeper talks.
A great way to experience Melbourne Zoo is to grab yourself a Melbourne zoo map and go exploring. Or, for more information about the zoo, join a guided walk with one of the zoo volunteers who are trained to answer your questions about the zoo and its inhabitants. The tours are free, but groups should contact the zoo to book.
